Life events

As a community we are delighted to help you celebrate key events in your life or be there to support you during a bereavement. Please read further for more information about what is available. If you would like to contact us about life events or find out more please email us

For any event to be celebrated within the community, individuals concerned must be members of the synagogue.

Naming ceremony/baby blessing
If you would like to have a naming ceremony for your baby please get in touch
We offer a blessing as part of our monthly Shabbat services either on Friday night or Saturday morning.
Generally people have a naming ceremony any time after 8 days after the birth of their baby.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Bar and Bat Mitzvahs (coming of age-ceremonies) are a key Jewish rite of passage for children as they approach adulthood. In Liberal Judaism we celebrate this at 13 years for girls and boys so there is parity.
If you would like your child to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah then please get in touch with Leanne Hoffman to find out more. Please make sure you allow enough time for us to plan this event and for your child to prepare; we advise a two-year preparation period.

Your child will need to be able to read the Parasha (weekly portion) and Hebrew, as well as participate in the weekly Bar/Bat Mitzvah classes held to prepare children for this important occasion.
You can contact us if you would like your child to attend classes.

Due to us being a small community we have a limited number of Bar/Bat Mitzvahs we can hold in a year.
To arrange dates and increase the likelihood of you getting your preferred month, you should contact us, if possible,18 months before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. In addition venues that we recommend can get booked up very early, so the sooner you book this the more likely you are to get the venue of your choice. We ask people to organise venues close to Crouch End so that as many members of the community as possible can come. We will not accept venues further more than 4 miles away from Crouch End.
Once you have contacted us we will send you a form to fill in, information about venues that we recommend and answer any other questions you have.
Please note Rabbi Sandra will need to agree that your child is ready to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Rabbi Sandra will meet with the family at the beginning of the process and at approximately 3 months before the ceremony. We will provide up to 150 towards the venue costs for the service of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah; you would need to pay the rest.

Weddings/Mixed faith blessing/Civil partnerships

Weddings, multi faith blessings, and civil partnerships are joyous occasions that we are pleased to help you plan and celebrate as part of our community. If you would like to find out more and book any of the above please contact Leanne to discuss further.
We would be happy to conduct a marriage blessing during one of our community services.

If you want to convert, contact Rabbi Sandra for more information and/or to set up an initial meeting.
We encourage those who want to convert to have been part of community life and have experienced the yearly festival cycle before they embark on this passage.

If you are part of our funeral scheme, your first port of call is to inform the community by emailing and to contact Ronnie King at Michael King Funeral Directors on 02083687453.. If you are not part of the funeral scheme then contact us and we can advise you about what to do.
If the family would like a service at a burial or cremation then Rabbi Sandra will do so.
If you would like to join our burial scheme, please contact Anna Wise.
